Influence of nanoclay on the fire resistance properties of epoxy-based intumescent retardant coatings for steel plate

The intumescent retardant coating was fabricated by a combination of epoxy binder and flame-retardant ingredients for the steel plate. This paper investigates influence nanoclay content on improving fire properties fire-retardant coatings. performances coatings were determined test at 950oC one hour. degradation characterized Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). morphology, composition char studied Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDS). results revealed that containing 3 wt.% showed best reduction in substrate temperature compared to without nanoclay. also concluded increased protective coating.
